Kevin Meyer: The Maker

The Foundation: Kevin’s journey began in the mid-1970s with a deliberate pivot from business studies to the discipline of fine woodworking. A woodworking apprenticeship, shaped in Pacific Northwest craft fairs, was refined through co-founding a Northern California cabinet shop. Later, he was drawn to the tangible discipline of Industrial Arts, formally studying furniture design and cabinetmaking. There, the philosophies of masters like James Krenov, Tage Frid, Sam Maloof, and George Nakashima defined his hands.

The Departure: A second chapter followed in the high-precision world of global semiconductors. Leading executive strategy at Motorola, Chartered Semiconductor, and GlobalFoundries, Kevin mastered the discipline of scale and the rigors of absolute excellence.

The Return: Today, the arc is complete. Kevin has returned to the bench full-time in his Soquel woodshop. He handcrafts Oceanic Botanicals’ sculptural hardwood frames—built with the strategic precision of an executive and the soul of a craftsman.
